Trip Type: Surgical Hysteroscopy

Surgical Hysteroscopy

Overview:

Surgical hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions within the uterus. It involves inserting a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope through the vagina and cervix into the uterus, allowing the doctor to view the uterine cavity and perform surgical interventions without making any external incisions. This procedure is commonly used to remove uterine polyps or fibroids, correct uterine septums, treat abnormal bleeding, or remove retained tissue after miscarriage. It may also be used to remove intrauterine devices (IUDs) or adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome).

Surgical hysteroscopy is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local, regional, or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the case. Recovery is usually quick, with most patients resuming normal activities within a day or two. Because it is less invasive than traditional surgery, surgical hysteroscopy offers reduced pain, faster healing, minimal scarring, and high precision in treating uterine conditions.
